Let’s talk about insurance
Modern insurance puts their needs first.
Direct Primary Care puts your health first.
Stop overspending on insurance you rarely use. With Direct Primary Care, your money goes directly toward your health—not costly premiums and hidden fees. Pairing DPC with a high-deductible plan means you’re covered for life’s big surprises while investing in the care you actually need every day.
Make quality insurance choices
We recommend all patients still carry insurance in case of emergencies or high-cost, elective procedures. This is how insurance is supposed to work! Membership in Highpoint is not insurance, but rather an incomparable investment in your health.
-
High cost insurance plans don’t mean you’re getting better care. Lower premiums with a high deductible plan paired with a Highpoint membership help save costs - up to hundreds of dollars per month. Offering unique, direct access to your doctor, helps prevent hospitalizations, emergency room visits, and specialty referrals.
-
Pairing a high deductible plan with an HSA is a great use of your dollars! Check with your human resources department or insurance plan directly to determine if you can use HSA or FSA funds for your membership. HSA and FSA funds are great options to pay for other health care costs as well (ie. labs, imaging, PT, etc).
-
Don’t have insurance? You can still join Highpoint regardless of your insurance situation. While insurance is recommended for major medical events, we understand the financial constraints of this system and believe everyone should have access to high quality care.
Quick Answers to Common Questions
-
Yes. Many patients keep their insurance for major medical needs - things like hospitalizations, surgeries, specialist visits, or emergency care. Your Highpoint membership covers your primary care with us, and insurance still works everywhere else.
-
No. Highpoint Direct Care does not bill insurance for anything we do in-office. This is what allows us to keep costs transparent, visit times longer, and care decisions based on what’s best for you - not what’s reimbursable. Many common, simple procedures are included with member services, but procedures that are more time intensive or use high cost materials do incur a fee, always discussed in advance.
-
Yes. You can always choose to use your insurance for outside services. But many patients discover that our wholesale pricing for labs, imaging, and certain medications is often lower than their insurance copay or high-deductible cost. We have great lab pricing that has reduced patient bills from hundreds of dollars to a fraction of the cost!

Using insurance for everyday primary care often leads to rushed visits, surprise bills, and limited access — because the insurance system was built around high-volume, not high-quality care. In direct primary care, you skip that entire system and get unlimited visits, direct messaging, same- or next-day appointments, and transparent pricing without worrying about deductibles or copays. It just makes more sense.

Yes — we recommend maintaining health insurance for unexpected, high-cost events. Think of your Highpoint membership as “everyday care” and your insurance as “worst-case-scenario coverage.” They work best when paired together, and used for their individual purposes.
